Last week we received tragic news of the death of Ashley Gammon, our Director of Communications. Ashley celebrated her 30th birthday last May. She joined United Way about 2 years ago and was a tremendous joy to work with and know. As our organization’s spokesperson, Ashley handled her often stressful role with grace, poise, and professionalism. I had the privilege of working with Ashley directly on interviews and on this blog. Ashley and I spent a good deal of time talking about the importance of an authentic voice. Ashley’s voice was shaped by a loving family, countless friends, and a career that reflected her values of servant leadership and direct action. Ashley had a smile and a laugh that was contagious. She was a trusted confidant of our organization. And, despite the brevity of her life, she lived on fire for the assignment that God placed in her heart and impacted countless people in our region and far beyond.
When facing a tragedy like the sudden loss of someone so young, there are no words that will soothe us as we grieve. May the peace that comes from knowing God rest upon us all. Ashley, we will always remember you.
